The John Report: WWE NXT 06/24/25 Review

WWE NXT June 24 Review

This week’s WWE NXT featured a big women’s 4-way match for a title shot, TNA World Champion Trick Williams facing Josh Briggs, and more.

I will be on vacation for a week starting next Tuesday, July 1 (Canada Day for me), so I won’t have next week’s review done until early the following week.

I’ll go play-by-play for one or two matches and summary style for the rest of the show. Let’s get to it.

They are at the WWE Performance Centre in Orlando for this week’s show. Follow me on Twitter @johnreport, and check out my NXT TV review archive.

There were promos from Lash Legend, Izzi Dame, Jaida Parker, and Jordynne Grace talking about how they are going to win the four-way main event.

The commentary team was Vic Joseph, Booker T and Corey Graves as usual. Mike Rome was the ring announcer.

TNA World Championship: Trick Williams vs. Josh Briggs (w/Yoshiki Inamura)

Briggs was in control, sending Trick face-first into the turnbuckle. Briggs ran the ropes and hit a jumping clothesline for two. Trick hit Briggs with some chops, so Briggs came back with punches to the body. Trick hit Briggs with a forearm to the throat and Trick sent Briggs face first into the turnbuckle. Trick grounded Briggs with a headlock until Briggs hit a suplex. Trick hit a clothesline that didn’t knock Briggs down, so Briggs hit an elbow smash, Trick hit an elbow smash of his own and Trick dropkicked Briggs out of the ring. Inamura blocked a strike from Trick and Briggs nailed Trick with a boot to the face. The show went on a break for some fans as the action continued. Back in the ring, Briggs chopped Trick and whipped Trick hard into the turnbuckle. Briggs hit a front suplex and an elbow drop. Trick came back with a spinning kick to the head. Trick grabbed Briggs in a headlock.

The action continued with Trick hitting a jumping side kick to knock Briggs down. Trick went for a jumping kick again, Briggs caught him and hit a slam. Briggs connected with a splash. Briggs hit a running elbow, but Trick came back with a jumping knee smash off the top rope for two. Briggs went for a Chokeslam, Trick avoided it and Briggs avoided a Powerbomb barely. Briggs connected with the Chokeslam and it got a two count because Trick got his left hand on the bottom rope. That Powerbomb reversal was a bit scary because Briggs almost hit his head on the mat, but they managed to recover. Trick and Briggs exchanged punches, which led to Briggs kicking Trick in the head. Trick came back with two kicks to the head. Briggs nailed Trick with a lariat. Briggs went up top for a moonsault attempt, but Trick avoided it. Trick hit a Trick Shot knee to knock Briggs down for the pinfall win after 12 minutes.

Winner by pinfall: Trick Williams

Analysis: ***1/4 A good match that was very competitive. There was a lot of offense for Briggs before Trick found a way to win. I don’t think anybody watching this expected Briggs to win here. It was one of those finishes where the loser attempted a big move off the top rope, only to miss spectacularly, and Trick recovered to hit his finisher for the win. We see those kinds of finishes often.

Trick Williams did a post-match promo saying he is carrying two brands and he’s the greatest TNA World Champion of all time. Joe Hendry’s music hit. Joe appeared in the ring behind Trick and hit Trick with multiple clotheslines. Joe clotheslined Trick over the top to the floor.

Analysis: They are doing Trick Williams against Joe Hendry at TNA Slammiversary next month, so having Joe show up to clear Trick from the ring was an easy way to advance that story. I think Hendry could take the title back from Trick at Slammiversary because I don’t expect Trick to have a long title reign.

There was a video from earlier today with Tavion Heights talking to Charlie Dempsey and Wren Sinclair. Heights said he had an injury in training, but he’s wearing a mask for his match, so the doctors cleared him.

A commercial aired for WWE Night of Champions on Saturday. I’ll have a preview up on TJRWrestling later this week.

(Commercial)

There was a video of Myles Borne talking to two members of the Florida Gators. Lexis King interrupted, saying he had advice for him. Borne said that King has taken shortcuts, unlike Borne. King insulted the Gators football team and left.

Jaida Parker was shown getting ready for her main event match.

Je’Von Evans vs. Tavion Heights (w/Charlie Dempsey & Wren Sinclair)

The story is that Evans and Heights are friends, but they are having a match. The stipulation is that if Heights wins, then he gets to leave the No Quarter Catch Crew group. Heights got some waist lock takedowns and tried a pin attempt. Evans hit some incredible high-flying moves with a hurricanrana. Evans hit an impressive dive over the top onto Heights on the floor. They took a break for some fans as the action continued. Heights hit an impressive overhead suplex across the ring. Heights used his power to clothesline Evans over the top rope to the apron.

Heights was in control with a clothesline that Evans sold with a flip bump for a two count. Evans hit a spinning kick and a superkick. Evans went up top and hit a spinning splash onto Heights for the pinfall win.

Winner by pinfall: Je’Von Evans

Analysis: *** They are two guys that have very bright futures, so it was fun to see them in a match like this. Evans makes everything look so easy, while Heights has a lot of technical wrestling skill, and he has to improve as a character. Evans getting the win didn’t surprise me since he is pushed more than Heights at this point. Evans is one of my favorites in NXT and I want to see him in the main event scene again.

After the match, Jasper Troy attacked Evans with a Black Hole Slam. Troy left.

Analysis: That sets up a Troy-Evans match, which is certainly fine with me. Tory has been impressive in NXT so far.

A video aired about Tony D’Angelo facing Stacks for the vacant NXT Heritage Cup since the champion, Noam Dar, is injured.

Ricky Saints vs. Ashante “Thee” Adonis

It started out as a slugfest where they exchanged punches. Ricky did a rope walk, leading to a punch to the arm, and Ricky tossed Adonis out of the ring. They went on four-minute break for some fans as the action continued for us here on Netflix. Ricky tossed Adonis into the barricade. Adonis did a neck snap across the top rope so that Ricky could start selling the throat injury. Adonis hit a spinebuster for a two count. It was mostly Adonis in control during the break.

Adonis continued the attack with a DDT and a slam off the shoulders called the Cash Out for a two count. Ricky did the comeback with an overhead suplex and a Tornado DDT for two. Ricky hit a Spear, followed by Rochambeau for the pinfall win after 8 minutes.

Winner by pinfall: Ricky Saints

Analysis: **3/4 A solid match to give Ricky a win since he lost the NXT North American Title recently. Adonis is a talented guy who can go in the ring, but they don’t have him win very often.

A video featuring Ethan Page on the screen stated that they had been doing this for a while, and then the video ended abruptly. Page then attacked Ricky in the ring. Page hit his own version of the Rochambeau slam on Saints. Page held the NXT North American Title over Saints.

Analysis: That rivalry will continue, and I assume it leads to some sort of Street Fight/Falls Count Anywhere match, perhaps at NXT Great American Bash.

An NXT Focus video aired about the Darkstate group. Dion Lennox claimed that just because they haven’t been seen does not mean they haven’t been making moves. Osiris Griffin and Cutler James talked about something hot coming, and they will get our attention. Saquon Shugars said they’ll burn this whole brand to the ground because when Darkstate strikes, nobody is safe.

Analysis: A lot of talk from a group that has barely been seen for the past month. I’m not sure why they have been sidelined, but it has led to them losing momentum.

Oba Femi was up next.

(Commercial)

Let’s Hear from Oba Femi

The NXT Champion Oba Femi made his entrance for a promo in the ring. Femi said since January 7th, he has been the NXT Champion, and he’s put down any challenger that has tried to oppose him. Femi said that one by one, they’ve come and they have fallen. Femi said that they are footnotes to his legacy. Femi said he sits comfortably at the top of the pedestal. Femi said that he gets restless when he’s idle because he craves the fight, he needs challengers and any man that thinks he can stand up to The Ruler, this is your opponent, this is your moment and he said The Ruler is ready.

Yoshiki Inamura made his entrance to join Femi in the ring. Inamura said that he came to NXT to chase glory just like Femi. Inamura said when he went back to Japan, he missed his best friend, Briggs, but he missed NXT. Inamura said he loved NXT, the culture, and the passion of the fans. Inamura said he wants to pay them back by becoming NXT Champion. Inamura said he wants bigger, so Femi and that title are bigger.

Femi said that they both know what it’s like to be strangers in a new place, but Femi has made this place his home, and he has thrived. Femi said that Inamura has had his fair share of struggles to go back to Japan, but Inamura came back and did it all with a smile on his face. Femi said that he sees beyond that smile. Femi said that he sees a man with the warrior spirit who craves the fight like Femi. Oba said that when you face The Ruler, you will fall like everybody else. Inamura said that he is ready.

Analysis: It will be a physical match whenever Femi faces Inamura. Inamura pinned Trick Williams in a tag team match, so that has led to a mild push for him, but I don’t see Femi losing that match.

Yoshiki Inamura left the ring, and Jasper Troy ran him over in the aisle. Troy had a staredown with Femi in the ring, which teases another match between them.

Analysis: It wouldn’t shock me if Troy won when he faces Femi again, but we don’t know when that will be.

Izzi Dame walked up to Tatum Paxley, which led Dame to gift Paxley a blonde doll. Dame asked Paxley to be in her corner. Sol Ruca and Zaria interrupted. Dame trashed Zaria for losing and sharing a title with her best friend, Ruca. Dame told Paxley she would love to have Paxley join them. The Culling’s Shawn Spears and Niko Vance talked with Paxley. Spears and Vance said they had something in the works because they have their eyes on some gold. Paxley left with Dame.

Tony D’Angelo made his entrance for singles action.

(Commercial)

Trick Williams was approached in the locker room by Wes Lee and High Ryze. Trick claimed he had things taken care of last week, but then Yoshi splashed him and nearly broke his ribs. Lee said that he’s going to face Trick’s problem, Joe Hendry, next week. Trick liked that. Trick told them to take care of Joe next week, and Trick will owe them one.

For The Vacant NXT Heritage Cup: Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo vs. Tony D’Angelo

The NXT Heritage Cup was held by Noam Dar, but he has an injury and had to relinquish it. That set up this grudge match for the vacant title. Stacks had three unnamed guys in white shirts in his corner. It’s the best two of three falls with three-minute rounds.

Round 1: Tony was in control early on with a running clothesline. Stacks worked over Tony with punches. Tony gave Stacks a hiptoss from the apron into the ring. Tony gave Stacks a back body drop. Tony caught Stacks and hit a belly-to-belly overhead suplex. Stacks charged at Tony, who kicked Stacks to knock him down. Stacks and Tony got into a slugfest as they exchanged punches for about 20 seconds. After the bell, Stacks slapped Tony in the face.

Round 2: Tony hit a running punch, followed by a shoulder tackle that sent Stacks from the apron into the commentary table. Back in the ring, Tony hit a Spear for the first fall. Tony D’Angelo leads 1-0.

Round 3: This round took place during the break for some fans. Tony sent Stacks sternum-first into the turnbuckle. Tony tossed Stacks into the turnbuckle back-first. Stacks was sent out of the ring, Tony went after him and Stacks hit a forearm to the back. When they got back into the ring, Tony clotheslined Stacks out of the ring. Stacks distracted the referee, so one of Stacks’ friends did a chop block to Tony that the referee didn’t see. Stacks worked over Tony’s left knee with elbow drops and a knee wrench submission. Stacks hit a knee drop to the back of the head for a two count, right at the end of the round. Stacks stomped on Tony’s knee after the round.

Round 4: Tony tried a spinebuster, the knee was hurting him, Stacks kicked the left knee, and Stacks got an inside cradle for the pinfall win. The match is tied 1-1.

Luca Crusifino went down to ringside to support Tony D. Luca told Tony that Tony can trust him.

Round 5: Stacks applied an Indian Deathlock submission on Tony’s knees. Tony got out of that and hit a spinebuster. Tony gave Stacks a hiptoss onto some guys on the floor. Luca stopped a white shirt guy from hitting Tony with a bucket, but it led to Luca hitting Tony in the back with the bucket by accident (the referee never saw it). Stacks capitalized with a running knee to the head for the pinfall win.

Winner AND NEW NXT Heritage Cup Champion: Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo (2-1)

Analysis: *** It was a good match. I don’t think the round matches are as exciting as a regular match, but they did their best. Stacks getting the win gives him the biggest singles win of his career since he won the NXT Heritage Cup. The finish played into the story that Tony D still isn’t sure if he can trust Luca, and Luca accidentally cost Tony the match. Stacks winning the Cup makes sense to give him some momentum.

After the match, Tony punched Luca. Tony said he doesn’t trust Luca or Stacks. Tony left.

Jacy Jayne, the NXT Women’s Champion, was interviewed with her Fatal Influence friends Fallon Henley and Jazmyn Nyx. Henley said that Blake Monroe learned that her position is at their feet. Jayne said it was their way of welcoming Blake to their division. Jayne talked about how Evolution was a historic even,t and she was sure she’d be on it if they did it again. Jayne said whoever wins tonight won’t beat her at Evolution in Atlanta.

Jordynne Grace was shown getting ready for the main event.

Thea Hail was backstage talking to wrestlers from the WWE LFG show. Hail was ranting about her loss last week. Lainey Reid walked in, saying that Hail knows how to be played like a fiddle. Reid said she’ll learn from Hail’s mistakes and go right past her. Lash Legend walked in, saying they should solve their problem later. Lash told them to watch how she gets things done.

Ethan Page, the NXT North American Champion, was backstage where Ava, the NXT GM, asked him what he was doing. Ethan said he tried to be on his best behavior, but Ricky Saints continues to get involved in his business. Ava said that Page and Ricky are required to be in her office next week. Page said that they can settle it on his terms.

There was chaos down the hall as Ava checked on Hank & Tank down on the floor, selling an attack.

Analysis: We saw The Culling’s Shawn Spears and Niko Vance tease something earlier, so I assume they were the mystery attackers in this case.

Joe Hendry was interviewed backstage by Sarah Schreiber. Joe said that at TNA Slammiversary, he’ll get his chance to win back the TNA World Title from Trick Williams. Sarah mentioned that Joe will face Wes Lee next week on NXT. Joe said that he’s a man on a mission and the next TNA World Champion.

Jaida Parker made her entrance for the main event. Izzi Dame was next, joined by Tatum Paxley.

(Commercial)

There was a Chase U video featuring Andre Chase, along with students Kale Dixon and Urijah Connors. Chase told them to toughen the f**k up. Urijah responded, so Chase wanted them to respect the fact that he knows what he’s doing. Kale said that attitude built the university, and it also destroyed it. Chase was sad as the guys left.

Next week on NXT:

* Jasper Troy vs. Yoshiki Inamura – Winner gets NXT Title match against Oba Femi and NXT Great American Bash

* Myles Borne vs. Lexis King

* Joe Hendry vs. Wes Lee

Analysis: They already taped next week’s show. I looked at the spoilers, and it doesn’t look that strong, but hopefully, there are some good matches.

Fatal 4-Way NXT Women’s Championship #1 Contender’s Match: Jaida Parker vs. Jordynne Grace vs. Lash Legend vs. Izzi Dame (w/Tatum Paxley)

There are no disqualifications and no countouts in a four-way match. First fall wins.

Lash and Grace cleared the ring. Lash hit a backbreaker on Grace. Lash suplexed Parker across the ring. Lash sent Grace into the turnbuckle and Dame sent Parker out of the ring. Lash and Dame exchanged punches. Lash hit a running clothesline and Lash sent Dame out of the ring. Lash hit Grace with shoulder tackles, and Grace managed to avoid a charging attack. Grace hit a Fisherman’s Suplex on Parker for two because Dame broke up the pin. Dame tackled Grace into the turnbuckle. Dame hit a back body drop on Grace. Dame hit a spinning slam off the shoulders on Grace, which Lash broke up. Parker hit a cross body block off the top on Lash. Parker knocked Dame down. Parker hit a front suplex on Grace. Lash pulled Parker out of the ring and Lash sent Parker into the commentary table. Grace hit a suicide dive on Lash on the floor. Dame gave Grace a Chokeslam on the apron. Parker ran over Dame with a shoulder tackle on the floor. Paxley pulled Parker’s leg, but there’s no DQ and Dame knocked Parker down with an elbow. Sol Ruca and Zaria showed up, so Zaria carried Paxley to the back. They went to a break for some fans as the action continued with Lash hitting shoulder tackles on Parker a few times. Lash hit an elbow drop to Parker’s back. Lash did her move against the ropes where she bounces the heads of her opponents against the ropes. Parker jumped on Lash’s back with a sleeper and Grace applied a Camel Clutch on Dame. Parker and Grace slapped eachother in the face. Parker chopped Dame.

Parker set up Dame against the turnbuckle, leading to a Parker’s hip drop on Dame. Parker did her hip drop on Grace, followed by Parker’s high-stepping. Lash tried a kick, Parker avoided it and Parker hit a Samoan Drop. Dame kicked Parker down. Dame hit a spinning sidewalk slam on Grace for two because Lash broke it up. The fans got into it chanting “this is awesome” for the ladies. Lash used Parker to knock down Dame and Lash tossed Parker down for a two count. Parker gave Lash a Backstabber with double knees to the back. Lash put Parker on her shoulders, Parker went for a sunset flip and Grace hit a cross body block on Lash, which led to Parker getting a two count on Lash because Dame broke up the pin. Lash and Parker exchanged punches. The four women battled by the turnbuckle, where Grace hit a double Powerbomb on Lash and Dame, who did a superplex on Parker. That was a great Tower of Doom spot while the Fatal Influence ladies were watching with shocked looks on their faces. Grace got three two counts after that. Grace hit a front powerslam. Grace went for a splash off the ropes, but Parker avoided it and Parker hit Hipnotic. Dame hit a Codebreaker on Parker, Lash hit a pump kick on Parker and Lash punched Dame out of the ring. Lash slammed Parker with a spinning slam and Grace broke up the pin. Grace kicked Lash to knock her out of the ring. Grace hit a Rack Bomb on Parker for the pinfall win after 13 minutes.

Winner by pinfall: Jordynne Grace

Analysis: ***1/2 I thought it was a very good match that was competitive from the start and they worked well together. I wanted Lash to win because I want to see her get a singles push, but I’m not surprised that Grace got the win. Grace has been in the title picture before and now she’s getting a singles match at a PLE, so she has a shot to win it. I liked a lot of the spots in the match, like the four-woman Tower of Doom out of the corner, and some of the other nearfalls worked really well. Parker had moments to shine, so did Dame and Legend, but it was all about giving Grace the big win.

The win means that Jordynne Grace will challenge Jacy Jayne for the NXT Women’s Title at Evolution on July 13th.

Jordynne Grace celebrated by having a staredown with Jacy Jayne, who was on the platform in the back of the building.

Final Thoughts on WWE NXT

I thought the in-ring action was pretty good with the women’s 4-way standing out and I liked the Trick match against Briggs. Most of the other matches were just okay.

There doesn’t seem to be any great storylines in NXT right now. They are trying to build up contenders for Oba Femi’s NXT Title, but I wouldn’t call them major threats or comparable to the best days of the brand.

It’s not a bad show or anything like that. However, I wouldn’t say that NXT is hot right now either.
