The John Report: AEW Rampage 02/25/22 Review
This week’s AEW Rampage featured Sammy Guevara defending the TNT Title against Andrade El Idolo while Orange Cassidy faced Anthony Bowens and more.
This is AEW Rampage from the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, Connecticut. It was taped on Wednesday after Dynamite. Follow me on Twitter @johnreport. Let’s get to it.
This will be a condensed review without the usual match description or promo recaps. I’m not feeling great, I have two funeral services to attend in the coming days and I just need a bit of a writing break. It’s nothing against AEW. I like the product and I look forward to recapping AEW Revolution next Sunday, March 6. I rarely take time off and I need a bit of a break right now. I watched the show on the couch and wrote some thoughts out. I’ll keep it brief.
Sammy Guevara defeated Andrade El Idolo to retain the TNT Championship
This was Andrade’s first match on TV in nearly three months since AEW doesn’t know what to do with the guy other than put him in 60 second backstage vignettes. The match was very good between two talented workers. They got about 13 minutes. I’d put it in the ***1/2 range. Sammy won with a springboard cutter. Why is Sammy still carrying about two TNT Titles? I don’t get it. One is fine.
After the match, Andrade and Matt Hardy attacked Sammy some more until Darby Allin & Sting made the save. The match at Revolution is Sammy Guevara, Sting & Darby Allin vs. Andrade El Idolo, Matt Hardy & Isiah Kassidy. That should be an easy win for Sammy, Sting & Darby with Kassidy taking the fall.
There was a segment with QT Marshall complaining about Hook, who QT helped train. Hook beat up some students of Marshall. The fans love Hook. I assume it leads to Hook beating Marshall soon, perhaps at Revolution.
Dan Lambert said he would get Scorpio Sky a TNT Title shot. I don’t think Sky has had a singles match on TV in over a year. Lots of Youtube wins, I guess.
Wardlow defeated Nick Comoroto
Wardlow won clean with the multiple Powerbombs that he likes to do. They’re both strong guys, so they had some power spots. Since they put a commercial in the middle of the match, they stretched it out to over six minutes. Wardlow winning was obvious.
Post match, Spears told Wardlow no more Powerbombs, which is a way to get heat on Spears and make fans want to see Powerbombs even more. Reverse psychology works very easily in pro wrestling. It works better than it does on a three-year-old child, which might explain some wrestling fans. It’s okay to be dumb, my friends. It’s part of the show.
Serena Deeb defeated Kayla Sparks
This was part of Serena’s “Five Minute Challenge” gimmick. Serena won with the Serenity Lock submission in 2:28. Apparently, Sparks was on Smackdown too since Rampage was taped on Wednesday.
Britt Baker and Thunder Rosa had a contract signing for the AEW Women’s Title match at Revolution. They exchanged some well-rehearsed dialogue. Jamie Hayter tried to help Baker from an attack from Rosa, so then Mercedes Martinez made the save for Rosa since they respect eachother now. This will probably set up a tag team match where Hayter takes the pin.
Face of the Revolution Qualifying Match: Orange Cassidy vs. Anthony Bowens
Orange Cassidy is a singles wrestler that is pushed a decent amount while Bowens is a tag team wrestler, so the result was obvious here. Orange won with the Orange Punch after his buddy Danhausen “cursed” Max Caster at ringside. Very evil. I like Bowens, but I doubt anybody watching this thought he had a shot.
The win by Cassidy puts him in the Face of the Revolution Ladder Match at Revolution with Powerhouse Hobbs, Keith Lee, Ricky Starks, Wardlow and more to come.

Final Thoughts
No three stars or scoreboard. I liked the TNT Title match. The main event was fine even though it had an obvious result. The rest of the show was just decent. I’ll try to have a regular review next week.
