AEW Collision Results – July 20, 2024

AEW Collision July 20

It was AEW Collision featuring Christian Cage’s Patriarchy group against the Bang Bang Gang for the vacant AEW Trios Tag Team Titles.

This episode was live from the Esports Stadium Arlington in Arlington, TX. It’s a new venue for AEW that will host several upcoming Collision and ROH events. The announcers were Tony Schiavone and Nigel McGuinness.

There is a new theme song. Elton John’s “Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting” is no more.

Match #1: Darby Allin defeated “The Beast” Mortos by pinfall. Allin won with a Coffin Drop.

After the match, Allin did a promo talking about Blood & Guts while also challenging TNT Champion Jack Perry.

“People always tell me to slow down because I won’t be able to walk when I’m 30. Well, I’m 30 and I feel wonderful! We’re getting ready for Blood & Guts, and it’ll be my first Blood & Guts match. I want to talk about the Young Bucks. They never come to Collision. AEW is my baby now. I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for the Young Bucks, but man, they suck really bad now.

And TNT Champion Jack Perry? That TNT title means everything to me, and I won’t stop until it’s around my waist again. All In is around the corner, so Jack, if you’ve got the guts, let’s play!” (H/T AEW)

The Acclaimed did a very quick backstage promo about being in the Blood & Guts Match on Wednesday’s Dynamite.

Match #2: Hikaru Shida vs. Skye Blue was stopped due to injury. Blue suffered an ankle injury four minutes into the match and couldn’t continue.

AEW Owner, CEO & GM Tony Khan issued a statement about it.

We echo what Tony Khan said and send our best wishes to Skye Blue in her recovery from that injury.

Lance Archer was backstage randomly beating up people. Archer said it was time to remind everybody who he was.

Chris Jericho, the FTW Champion, did a promo about Minoru Suzuki interrupting him on Dynamite. Jericho faces Suzuki next week on Dynamite.

Match #3: Rey Fenix (with Alex Abrahantes) defeated Tony Nese (with “Smart” Mark Sterling, Josh Woods, & Ariya Daivari) by pinfall. Fenix won with a Frog Splash.

FTR’s Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler spoke about how they are on a quest to become the AEW Tag Team Champions again. They called out the AEW Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks and said that they were coming for them while also mentioning All In at Wembley Stadium.

Hikaru Shida was interviewed backstage where she challenged Britt Baker to a match on AEW Dynamite this coming Wednesday on the Blood & Guts episode. It will be Baker’s first match since her return.

Match #4: Roderick Strong defeated Tomohiro Ishii by pinfall. Strong did a low blow when The Undisputed Kingdom was distracting the referee and a jumping knee by Strong led to the pinfall win.

After the match, Strong and the Undisputed Kingdom wanted to do more damage to Ishii, but Mark Briscoe & Kyle O’Reilly made the save so the Undisputed Kingdom ran away.

Match #5: Hologram defeated Gringo Loco by pinfall. Hologram won his debut match with an airplane spin into a slam for the win.

Dustin Rhodes was backstage with Kevin Von Erich along with his sons Ross & Marshall Von Erich. Dustin assured Ross and Marshall that he had their backs.

Match #6: Deonna Purrazzo defeated Thunder Rosa in a Lumberjack Match by pinfall. There was fighting on the floor among the female lumberjacks. Taya Valkyrie handed Purrazzo a steel bar from the turnbuckle and Purrazzo used that steel bar to hit Rosa. The referee didn’t see it due to being distracted. Purrazzo pinned Rosa to win the match. Valkyrie celebrated with Purrazzo so it appears as though they might become allies after this.

Who Won The AEW Collision Main Event?

In the main event, the vacant AEW Trios Tag Team Titles were up for grabs.

Match #7: The Patriarchy – Christian Cage, Killswitch & Nick Wayne (w/Mother Wayne) defeated The Bang Bang Gang – Juice Robinson, Austin Gunn & Colten Gunn.

It was a controversial finish because Christian and Juice were fighting over a move while Christian pulled referee Bryce Remsburg’s head down. This allowed Mother Wayne to spray something in Juice’s eyes (perfume? hairspray?) and Christian hit Killswitch on Juice for the win.

That means that The Patriarchy’s Christian Cage, Killswitch & Nick Wayne are the new AEW Trios Tag Team Champions.

As a reminder, AEW Dynamite on July 24th has the Blood & Guts Match featuring The Elite – Kazuchika Okada, Matthew Jackson, Nicholas Jackson, Jack Perry & “Hangman” Adam Page vs. Team AEW – Swerve Strickland, Mark Briscoe, Darby Allin, Max Caster & Anthony Bowens.

That’s all for this week. Thanks for reading.
