“When you signed me 24 years ago, I was like, whoa. And here we are 24 years later and I’m ending my career and it’s just an honor to be here with you. I look back at all this stuff and it feels like there’s all these moments that I’ll just never understand. I watched you as a kid and here I am with you now.”

“As far as my body breaking down or things I worry about, I think of my neck and concussions. Honestly, I also think of all the ways my body has served me well. When I look back at what I had to do to get noticed…and the odds are I’ll have to get neck surgery before the end of this year. That’s the reality of it.”

“I’ve had four opportunities to win the AEW World Championship before and if you asked me before each time, I would have said ‘I’m ready.’ And then each time I failed. But the interesting thing is, each time I failed, I learned something about myself. And this’ll be 25 years in wrestling, and I think mentally I’m the best I’ve ever been. I think I’m the most mentally strong I’ve ever been in my career, and I think that’s what’s going to pull me through.”

Hikaru Shida was interviewed backstage. Shida challenged Mercedes Mone to a TBS Title match on Dynamite this coming Wednesday. AEW made the match official.
