Report: WWE Possibly Doing A CWC Style Women’s Tournament In 2017
World Wrestling Entertainment’s 10-week Cruiserweight Classic came to an end this past Wednesday. The live two-hour finale saw TJ Perkins defeat Kota Ibushi in the semi-finals and Gran Metalik in the finals to win the inaugural Cruiserweight Classic. Perkins also became the new WWE Cruiserweight Champion, which means he will be walking into Monday Night Raw on September 19 as the champion of the returning WWE Cruiserweight Division.
With the Cruiserweight Classic being a big success, it makes sense that WWE would not only want to bring it back for next year, but experiment with different takes on the Cruiserweight Classic formula. It seems like this may be the case, as PWInsider is reporting that there are (and has been) talks within WWE about doing a version of the Cruiserweight Classic with women wrestlers not on WWE’s roster. This women’s tournament has not been officially decided on yet, but if it does happen, it could take place as soon as the first quarter of 2017. This is also according to PWInsider.
