Report: WWE Cutting Down On Number Of Pay-Per-Views in 2017

World Wrestling Entertainment will reportedly be cutting down on the number of pay-per-view events offered in 2017. This is according to the latest edition of Dave Meltzer’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

WWE Network subscription numbers declined in September despite offering more pay-per-views due to the brand extension. Meltzer notes that the details have not been finalized yet, but the latest is that there will be “a few less shows in 2017 than were originally planned.”

Mark’s reaction: I do not mind this news one bit. I have found that, for me at least, having one Raw and one Smackdown pay-per-view a month is becoming a bit too much. There are times where I’m feeling drained by the product.

Due to the addition of pay-per-views, the events don’t feel as important anymore or as must see. I have plenty of friends that, since the brand split and the addition of more pay-per-views, find themselves skimming through each pay-per-view to watch the matches they are interested in rather than the whole show. The main reason for this being that all this extra content is taking up too much time. Instead of consuming everything, their only going to watch the few parts that appeal to them. Maybe having a few less pay-per-views in 2017 will fix this.
