Report: Update On John Cena’s WWE WrestleMania Match; Not Samoa Joe
John Cena’s plans for WrestleMania 33 has reportedly changed. Initial reports from Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer suggested that Cena’s WrestleMania opponent this year would be Samoa Joe.
Samoa Joe made his main roster debut during last night’s edition of Monday Night Raw. In the final segment of the show, Seth Rollins was heading towards the ring to come to blows with Triple H. Right before Rollins got a chance to enter the ring, he was attacked by Samoa Joe. Raw ended with Joe standing over Rollins’ passed out body.
This proves to be a bit problematic since this means that Samoa Joe is now a Raw Superstar, while Cena is a Smackdown Superstar. WWE could of had Cena vs. Joe be a Raw vs. Smackdown match, but it does not look like WWE is going to continue down this route.
The new report is that Cena’s no longer scheduled to face Samoa Joe and will instead have a different match that is “not necessarily good news.” This is according to Dave Meltzer on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio. By “not necessarily good news” I’m assuming he means not necessarily good news for the fans who would have wanted to see him face either Joe, The Undertaker or another big name. Meltzer speculated that Cena’s new opponent could be Dolph Ziggler or Baron Corbin.
For anyone who is confused about any of the above since Cena’s the current WWE World Champion, it’s being reported that Cena will not be holding his WWE World Title going into WrestleMania.
Mark’s reaction: Although Meltzer suggests that Cena changing opponents is not necessarily good news, it makes me happy. Having Cena go up against guys like Ziggler or Corbin at WrestleMania would help elevate Ziggler or Corbin tremendously. Side note: Ziggler has never had a one-on-one match at WrestleMania.
