Report: Owens Likely To Defend WWE Universal Title vs. Goldberg at Fastlane; Implications For WrestleMania
Kevin Owens defeated Roman Reigns during last night’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view, retaining his Universal Championship. However, Owens may not be holding onto the Universal Title for too much longer.
On the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer stated that the current plan is for Goldberg to challenge Kevin Owens for the Universal Title, likely at Raw’s Fastlane pay-per-view on March 5. Goldberg will likely defeat Owens at Fastlane and then go on to face Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 33 with the Universal Championship being up for grabs.
This is in alignment with Meltzer’s report from last week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, where he mentioned that neither AJ Styles nor Kevin Owens would be champions heading into WrestleMania 33. The list of matches Meltzer mentioned in the Observer can be seen by clicking right here. As of now, it looks like Meltzer’s WrestleMania 33 match list is shaping up to be correct.
