Report: Mickie James Returning To WWE Main Roster

TJR Wrestling

Mickie James is returning to World Wrestling Entertainment on the main roster as part of the Smackdown brand. A report from PWInsider notes that “multiple WWE sources have confirmed” that Mickie has signed a multi-year deal and will likely make her return as part of the Smackdown brand in January 2017.

Following Mickie’s match with Asuka at NXT Takeover Toronto on November 19, officials were impressed by what they saw and felt like she would be a good fit on the main roster again. James, who is married to former TNA star Nick Aldis aka Magnus, is also a mother to a two year old son. She’s 37 years old and as she showed at Takeover, you can hold off on those “you still got it” chants because she never lost it.

Mickie is a five time WWE Women’s Champion and one time Divas Champion. Trish Stratus has the most Women’s Title wins in WWE history with seven, but if Mickie can get one more she would tie her. Then again, at the rate that Sasha and Charlotte are doing title switches perhaps one of them will get there first!

The news was first reported by ProWrestlingSheet a few days ago and also confirmed by the Wrestling Observer Newsletter as well.

TJR Thoughts: I know a lot of you know this, but I will re-iterate that I’m a close friend of hers and have been helping her with her website as well as social media for over six years now. I knew about the story a few days ago, but didn’t want to run it out of respect for her. Now that several of the top sites on the internet are running with it, I figured I might as well share it on here as well.

I’m happy for her and there’s nobody in wrestling that deserves it more than her. I always felt like her release in 2010 was pretty foolish on WWE’s part and I believed she would get back there some day. I didn’t think it would take six years, but I’m glad it has happened. As soon as she was announced to face Asuka, people were asking me if she was going to be on the main roster. I honestly had no idea at that point. After the match, I felt it was likely and I’m glad that is the case now.

Prior to her NXT Takeover match with Asuka, Mickie appeared on the TJRWrestling Podcast with Rey Moralde and myself. Here’s a link to that with some of her comments or you can listen to it on the player below.

Congrats to Mickie. She deserves it.
