Report: Kurt Angle’s Lack Of Bookings In 2016/17 Due To Possible WWE Return

TJR Wrestling

Former WWE Champion Kurt Angle is currently not taking any new professional wrestling bookings for the remainder of this year and for 2017. Angle’s management is reportedly keeping his schedule clear because they are expecting something to happen with WWE. This is according to the latest edition of Dave Meltzer’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Although he is not taking any new bookings, Angle will still be doing various appearances (e.g. autograph signings).

Angle is currently scheduled to go one-on-one with former WWE Intercontinental Champion Cody Rhodes on Sunday, August 27 at Northeast Wrestling’s “Wrestling Under the Stars” event. It will talk place at Duchess Stadium in Wappingers Falls, New York. You can click right here for ticket information.

Another reason for Angle taking less booking is his wife is due to have a baby later in the year (Angle’s 5th child), so that is part of it too.

Mark’s reaction: I think Angle would be a nice addition to the Smackdown brand if WWE decides to bring him back. They can have Angle work a limited schedule and mentor the now top tag team on Smackdown, American Alpha. It also makes sense as Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan said they want to make Smackdown the wrestling-focused brand. An addition of Angle to Smackdown could help viewership and get people talking about which brand is “hotter” right now. It seems like a win-win scenario.
