Paul Heyman Praises Cesaro As “A Main Event Player”

Paul Heyman has discussed why he believes Cesaro is a main event level talent in WWE and touched on why their on-screen affiliation didn’t pan out.

WrestleMania 30 was full of iconic moments and is a show central in terms of historical significance to WWE. It was at WrestleMania 30 where The Undertaker’s WrestleMania streak was sent to rest in peace at the hands of The Conqueror Brock Lesnar. The 21-0 record became 21-1 with Heyman reminding us that Lesnar was the “one in 21-1.”

Also on that night, Cesaro had a breakout performance winning the inaugural André The Giant Memorial Battle Royal. In a scene harkening back to WrestleMania 3, Cesaro won the bout by slamming the giant Big Show over the top rope in an incredible feat of strength.

While Brock Lesnar was not going to be on television every week following the event, Cesaro was. And as Paul Heyman exclusively explained to Inside The Ropes’ own Kenny McIntosh for issue 10 of Inside The Ropes magazine, this was the catalyst for Cesaro to become a ‘Paul Heyman Guy’ so Heyman could appear alongside him and remind the world just what Brock Lesnar had done:

“I’ve always thought Cesaro was a main event player in WWE. Cesaro was paired with Paul Heyman because Paul Heyman needed an excuse to be on television to say the words, ‘My client, Brock Lesnar, conquered The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania.’ That was an elevation in terms of exposure for Cesaro, but it did him no favours in terms of showcasing his talents.”

While Heyman and Cesaro’s on-screen partnership was brief, there was no great break-up between the pair and the Swiss Cyborg continued his career. He arguably has found the most success in WWE as part of The Bar tag team with Sheamus – together the team captured some form of WWE Tag Team Title on five separate occasions.

Earlier this year, Heyman and Cesaro were involved in the same storyline again as Cesaro unsuccessfully challenged Roman Reigns for the Universal Title at WrestleMania Backlash. Cesaro fell short while Heyman was at ringside as the Special Counsel of Reigns.

Paul Heyman may have once reveled in taunting the world with Brock Lesnar’s achievements but Heyman was certainly not celebrating Lesnar’s WWE return at SummerSlam when he confronted The Tribal Chief Roman Reigns.
