Gable Steveson has made a decision about his future and according to reports, the Olympic Gold Medalist will begin his career in a World Wrestling Entertainment ring.

The 21-year-old Steveson made headlines at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics when he won the Gold Medal in the Men’s Freestyle 125 kg event. Gable was trailing in the finals with about ten seconds when he did a last-second takedown on Geno Petriashvili from Georgia to capture the Gold Medal. Prior to his Olympic win, Steveson won two Big Ten Conference titles at the University of Minnesota and was a two-time All-American.

Following his Gold Medal win, there was a lot of speculation about what Steveson would do next since it was known that he was a huge WWE fan that had an interest in being a pro wrestler, but he also has another of eligibility as a collegiate wrestler. Steveson also has mentioned that he could have tried out for NFL teams and signing with the UFC was another option too. When talking about WWE in the past, Steveson noted he would be a “Paul Heyman Guy” citing his friendship with WWE’s Paul Heyman, who has known him for several years.

It has been reported by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer that Steveson has signed a deal with WWE. No further details were given noting that there is no start date announced yet.

Earlier in the day, Steveson tweeted that he just signed a contract.

If Steveson has signed with WWE then he will join his older brother Bobby as a developmental wrestler in WWE. Bobby was also a collegiate wrestler that was recently announced by WWE as part of a new recruiting class.

It’s not a surprise that WWE had a lot of interest in signing Steveson to a contract. Steveson has appeared at WWE events like NXT Stand & Deliver back in April with Stephanie McMahon standing right beside him as if she was a superfan cheering him on. Steveson was at SummerSlam two weeks ago where he posted some backstage photos while also getting cheered by fans in the ring along with Gold Medal women’s wrestler Tamyra Mensah-Stock, who apparently has an interest in joining WWE according to what the announcers said when she was on camera.

Steveson met Vince McMahon during SummerSlam weekend and posted this photo with the WWE Chairman, who gave him a thumbs up.

Steveson also shared this photo with WWE’s Triple H, who has praised Steveson many times in the past.

Considering Steveson’s only 21 years old, is a legitimate WWE fan, has the size and athleticism that WWE loves, it’s no surprise that Vince McMahon, Triple H or anybody in WWE would be excited about signing him.

In January 2020, Steveson even got to do some amateur wrestling drills with WWE legend Brock Lesnar, who also was a standout wrestler at the University of Minnesota.

Gable Steveson’s WWE signing has not been officially announced by the company, but considering his name as a Gold Medalist, it’s possible that WWE could announce it soon.
