Zelina Vega Confirms She Suffered A Ruptured Implant

Zelina Vega has opened up about missing some time away from the ring in 2022 due to suffering a ruptured implant.

Zelina Vega had a good start to 2022 as one-half of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions alongside Carmella but after the duo lost the title at WrestleMania 38, Vega soon disappeared from television.

Vega then made her comeback to WWE screens in October where she joined Legado del Fantasma on SmackDown. The Queen’s Crown winner has since returned to the ring and was a part of the 2023 women’s Royal Rumble match.

Speaking on Anna Faris Is Unqualified, Zelina Vega confirmed she underwent surgery during her time away and explained how she suffered one of the more unusual injuries during a match:

“It never happens on some really cool move or some crazy flip I did outside the ring. It’s always the littlest thing that will happen, and that’s how you get injured. Knock on wood, I actually hadn’t had any serious injuries until that point. It wasn’t even really that bad.”

“This is silly, but one of my best friends and I were in a match, and she had given me this one called a Northern Lights Suplex, where basically she kind of flips me over her backwards, and her shoulder went into my chest, and I ruptured an implant.”

“But me, of course, looking on the bright side, I was like, well they are 10 years old anyway, and I kind of wanted them bigger anyway. So it ended up working out. Lately I’m like, ‘I should have gone a little bigger, I don’t know,’ [laughs] why not?’”

Zelina Vega will be featured in Street Fighter 6 as a commentator and during the Rumble itself, she was dressed as Juri from the game. Unfortunately, Vega did not have much success in the match, being eliminated by Lacey Evans and suffering a seemingly never-ending fall to the floor.
