Zelina Vega Responds To Idea Of Backlash Missed Opportunity

Zelina Vega has given her thoughts in response to people thinking that she would have left WWE Backlash as the Smackdown Women’s Champion.

Rhea Ripley defended the Smackdown Women’s Title against Zelina Vega at Backlash in Puerto Rico this past Saturday. During the match, Vega was wearing the Puerto Rican colors, she had a Puerto Rican jacket as part of her entrance, and her Puerto Rican family members, including her mom, were at ringside.

In a story we shared earlier today, WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray (aka Bubba Ray Dudley) explained why he thinks Zelina Vega should have beat Ripley at Backlash.

“There are certain times in this business you do things for other reasons beyond just the business. I don’t think Zelina is a better wrestler than Rhea, but if there was ever a moment for Rhea to slip on a banana peel and for [Zelina] to get the one-two-three, it was that night in Puerto Rico, just so we could see that championship around her waist with her family coming in the ring [and] looking up at dad in the heavens.”

“Why not put that championship on her for two days? Why not get her over to the 9/11 memorial to take some pictures … at her dad’s final resting place that she can have forever and ever?”

The reference to Vega’s father is because he died on September 11, 2011, when she was ten years old.

On Twitter, Zelina Vega responded to a clip from WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray talking about how she should have beat Ripley at Backlash.

“This would have been the cherry on top but know this, I truly believe that I WILL do exactly this.. I truly, truly believe that I will because then it’s full circle. My promise fulfilled. It will happen… exactly as you beautifully articulated it. Thank you @bullyray5150″

In her WWE career so far, Zelina Vega has yet to win a singles title. However, she is a former Queen’s Crown winner and a Women’s Tag Team Champion as well.
