WWE’s Stance On John Cena Wrestling Again Revealed
John Cena is now retired, and WWE’s stance on him ever wrestling again has been made very clear.
The legendary in-ring career of John Cena came to an end on December 13th, 2025, at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Cena had made clear at the start of 2025 that this was his final year as an in-ring competitor, although WWE ended up asking him to do substantially less than he originally offered.
In his final match, Cena went one-on-one with Gunther for the first time ever after The Ring General won a 16-man Last Time Is Now tournament to earn the honour of sharing the ring with the 17-time WWE Champion.
Gunther made clear he wanted to make Cena tap out, something not seen in over 20 years from the man who spent a career preaching “Never give up.” That’s perhaps why there was a stunned silence in Washington, D.C. when Cena meekly tapped out to the sleeper hold with a smile on his face.
Such was the fan anger at the finish that Triple H was showered with “You f*cked up” chants when he led the locker room to ringside to pay tribute to Cena.
Will WWE Ask John Cena To Wrestle Again?
John Cena has been clear that he will not wrestle again, but wrestling retirements are famously fickle, so what does WWE really think about trying to lure Cena back in the ring in the future?
Fightful Select has reported that, as things stand, WWE is adamant that Cena will not wrestle again, and they don’t plan on asking him to break his retirement to do so.
Cena signed a new five-year deal to remain with WWE as an ambassador, so he will not be venturing elsewhere to possibly be tempted by a comeback either.
