WWE’s Plans For Rey Fenix’s Imminent Debut
Rey Fenix is heading to WWE and now the plans for the former AEW Tag Team Champion’s debut have been revealed.
WWE proved they’d waste no time with ex-AEW stars after Ricky Saints was snapped up just days after his release from Tony Khan’s company. The former Ricky Starks was released after a long period of absence alongside Miro and Malakai Black.
Questions remained over the status of Rey Fenix at that time as the former AEW Tag Team Champion made no secret that he wanted out of his deal so he could join his brother Penta in WWE. Fenix’s contract was extended by AEW due to injuries but now Tony Khan has cut his losses and Rey Fenix is no longer on the AEW roster.
Rey Fenix Heading To WWE’s Blue Brand
On the March 14 edition of SmackDown, a vignette aired of a masked luchador training in the ring and walking the ropes with their mystery concealed by an orange light. Many have speculated that the man at the centre of the vignette is Rey Fenix. A second vignette on the March 21 edition of SmackDown all but confirmed that Fenix was on his way.
Fightful Select Espanol confirmed that Rey Fenix has now officially signed with WWE and that the plan for now is to debut the star on the SmackDown brand. However, it was not confirmed when this debut would actually take place. This will keep him apart from his brother Penta, at least at the start of his WWE career, with Penta already making a name for himself on Raw. Penta has already targeted his first championship since joining WWE.
