WWE’s Plans For Champion After Unscripted Title Change Revealed

Triple H WWE

WWE’s plans for the company’s newest and most unexpected champion might have been revealed.

Blake Monroe captured the NXT Women’s North American Championship at Halloween Havoc, just four months after she made her WWE in-ring debut. That title win saw Zaria take the place of the reigning champion, Sol Ruca, due to an injury suffered by Ruca.

At Gold Rush, Blake Monroe solidified her status as champion when she successfully defended the gold against Sol Ruca. On the December 16th edition of NXT, Monroe put her gold on the line against Thea Hail, and that match ended in a way no one predicted, simply because it wasn’t supposed to happen.

During the bout, Hail attempted to pin Monroe after a springboard senton, but instead of getting her shoulder off the mat, Monroe simply lifted her hand, and the referee counted to three, giving Hail the shock win and the NXT Women’s North American Championship.

WWE had to throw creative plans out of the window following the botched title change, as plans had already been put in place for Hail that involved her not being the champion.

Thea Hail Could Face Quick WWE Title Defence

Fightful Select has given an update on the situation, and it seems that the company could be set to correct its course very quickly. The report noted that Blake Monroe and Thea Hail could clash again with the gold on the line as soon as New Year’s Evil, set to take place on January 6th, although it should be stressed that this has not been confirmed.

That show will see Oba Femi put his NXT Championship on the line against TNA X-Division Champion Leon Slater. Jacy Jayne will also defend her NXT Women’s Title against Kendal Grey.

New Year’s Evil will be the next live NXT show to air, with WWE taping two weeks’ worth of shows to air on December 23rd and 30th.
