WWE’s Current Tattoo Policy Revealed
WWE has always been known for its strict backstage rules, ensuring every performer upholds a certain image inside and outside of the ring.
From attire guidelines to grooming standards, WWE talent face a long list of expectations when they sign with the company. Wrestlers commonly need permission to change their appearance, such as their hair color or style, and are expected to dress appropriately for both on-screen and public appearances.
Among these lesser-known regulations is a firm policy regarding tattoos, a rule that often surprises new talent and fans alike.
WWE Wrestlers Need To Get Approval Before Getting a Tattoo
Recently, Saraya, formerly known as Paige, shed light on this policy on her Rulebreakers podcast. Sharing her personal experiences, Saraya said:
“I don’t know if it’s the same these days, but when I first got in there, I wasn’t allowed to get tattoos and stuff like that. You know, you have to get them approved.”
She added, “Yeah, the haircut when I became GM, they were just—I had to ask permission before I even got my haircut. Sure. Like you’re controlled.” Her insights reveal how WWE tightly manages the appearance of its wrestlers to protect the brand’s image.
Saraya broke into the Stamford-based promotion in 2011, quickly rising to fame and capturing both the NXT Women’s and Divas Championships. Her charismatic personality and unique style set her apart.
In 2022, after health setbacks and a memorable run as General Manager, Saraya left WWE when her contract expired and soon resurfaced in AEW under her real name. She made headlines again in 2024 when she departed AEW, sparking widespread speculation about a possible WWE return.
