WWE’s Cancelled “New Brood” Plans Finally Revealed

WWE Logo Blur The Brood

A former WWE superstar revealed that there were plans for The Brood to return with new group members.

The Brood was a stable consisting of Gangrel, Edge, and Christian from October 1998 in the popular WWE Attitude Era.

While The Brood didn’t have a long run as a stable, they are remembered fondly for having one of the coolest entrances ever because the trio would rise from under the stage while surrounded by fire.

Gangrel, who was a vampire character, would also drink some red liquid that viewers thought was blood, and he would spit it in the air before a match.

The original version of The Brood ended by July 1999, so they weren’t even together for a year. Gangrel ended up forming a new version of The Brood with Matt & Jeff Hardy, but that only lasted about two months from August 1999 to October 1999.

There was a Brood throwback at WWE SummerSlam 2021 when Edge made his entrance to the Brood theme song, which a lot of fans seemed to love at the time.

WWE Nearly Brought The Brood Back In Mid-2000s

In an interview with WrestlingNewsco, former WWE superstar Shelly Martinez, who was Ariel in WWE in 2006-07 and then Salinas in TNA, revealed that there was a plan to bring back The Brood, led by Gangrel, but it never came to fruition.

“Tommy Dreamer told me: ‘We’re going to make a new Brood with Gangrel, me, Jimmy Wang Yang, and Kevin Seven.’ And so I was excited. And then when I got there, Jimmy Wang Yang, Kevin Seven, and Gangrel all got released. And so I was like, ‘This is not gonna happen.'”

Ariel ended up on the ECW relaunch (in 2006) with Kevin Thorn during a period of time that is not exactly celebrated among wrestling fans.

At least they got a tag team win at WWE’s ECW December to Dismember, which many fans consider to be one of the worst WWE-produced PPVs ever.
