WWE Yet To Finalise Plans For John Cena’s Retirement
John Cena will retire in mid-December.
By the end of 2025, John Cena wants to have made WWE history. The veteran has vowed to retire from in-ring competition and actually stay retired. Pro wrestling retirements are notoriously flimsy, with the likes of Mick Foley, Ric Flair, and Terry Funk getting back in the ring after their (many) goodbyes.
Even legends such as Stone Cold Steve Austin and Shawn Michaels couldn’t resist the call of one more match.
However, Cena has promised to be different, despite enjoying yet another World Title reign and victory over CM Punk at Night of Champions.
Next up for Cena is a date with Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam, where the Undisputed WWE Championship will again be on the line. Rhodes earned his rematch with Cena by winning the King of the Ring tournament at Night of Champions.
The American Nightmare will be out for revenge after Cena beat him to claim his record 17th World Championship win at WrestleMania 41.
WWE Still Working On Plans For John Cena
During an appearance on This Morning in the UK, Cena confirmed that he plans to retire in the middle of December before giving a few more details to The New York Post’s Page Six. In a conversation with the Post, Cena said that WWE is yet to lock in a location for his last match.
“My last match will be in mid-December. We’re still trying to find a place to do it,” Cena said. “I said 36 dates in January, we’re halfway through. And, gosh, it’s been a lot of compelling TV. And I don’t want to spoil it for anybody, but I think we’re just getting started.”
Despite those comments from Cena, it’s widely believed that he’ll step into a WWE ring for the final time at an edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13. It’s been speculated that the special would be held at the TD Garden in Boston, enabling Cena to say goodbye in his home state of Massachusetts.
However, it should be noted that there has been no official comment from the venue or WWE regarding the show.
