Massive WWE WrestleMania Plans Scrapped For Cody Rhodes & Roman Reigns
Roman Reigns nearly had a different WrestleMania opponent.
At WrestleMania 41, Cody Rhodes lost the Undisputed WWE Championship to John Cena via interference from Travis Scott.
Rhodes had won the title a year earlier after beating Roman Reigns is one of the most emotional main events in recent memory. That win came a year after Reigns had beaten Rhodes to retain the gold.
Many fans are expecting Reigns and Rhodes to complete their trilogy in the coming years, and it’s already been considered.
As noted by Paul Heyman in a new interview with Ariel Helwani, a Cody Rhodes vs. John Cena match was always the likely main event, but consideration was given to a third match between Reigns and Rhodes.
“I think Cody-Cena was always the path. We also discussed, at some point, do we do Roman versus Cody III? Do they main event a third WrestleMania in a row? That would have been interesting, too. I mean, we explored all options.”
Roman Reigns Confirmed For Another WWE Event
Following SummerSlam, Reigns continued his rivalry with Seth Rollins and his faction on Raw. However, on the most recent episode of the show, Reigns was destroyed by Bronson Reed and Breakker, as well as Rollins.
But it might not be long until Reigns gets a measure of revenge.
It’s been reported that Roman Reigns will feature at Clash In Paris before he takes a break to work on an upcoming movie project. The star is expected to be absent from September 2 until September 26 while working on the new live-action Street Fighter film.
Reigns is also advertised for Monday Night Raw on August 18 and August 25.
Amid speculation following the Clash in Paris poster release, Roman Reigns is indeed scheduled to be part of the premium live event later this month.
We’re told that the decision came rather recently, as Reigns wasn’t involved in early creative plans—explaining his absence from the initial promotion. WWE’s biggest draw is now in the fold for France, as top ticket prices for the event are currently listed at roughly $3,900 USD (3301.50 €)
Meanwhile, it’s been confirmed that Cody Rhodes will appear on the August 8 edition of SmackDown after beating John Cena for the Undisputed WWE Championship. Cena will also be on the show to comment for the first time on the attack he suffered at the hands of Brock Lesnar after that defeat.
