WWE Without A Ring? Vince McMahon’s Wild Prediction For Wrestling’s Future
Vince McMahon is considered a genius by many, but this idea he allegedly had may shock even his most staunch supporters.
McMahon was the driving force behind WWE and took the wrestling promotion to the next level by devouring all of its competitors, forming a multi-billion dollar company in the process.
What he succeeded in doing business-wise, he also did in amassing a worldwide fanbase and made the WWE a staple in popular culture, where even non-wrestling fans in the world could at one point in the 90s or the 2000s recognise at least one WWE superstar.
This was mainly due to Vince’s commitment to building unforgettable storylines with high drama and compelling characters. His creative ideas and inputs helped elevate the WWE to top-tier television status.
Although not without its flaws, the WWE product under Vince McMahon attracted even casual television viewers who weren’t necessarily interested in wrestling, but came to see the high-stakes drama and how things would pan out, with some falling in love with wrestling in the process.
Vince Russo Shares Crazy Vince McMahon Quote From Attitude Era
Vince Russo firmly believes that the casual viewer is what give the TV ratings their peak. They are not interested in the wrestling and are tuning in to see the stories, something that the WWE product of today lacks.
Speaking to Jonathan Coachman on the Coach and Bro podcast, Russo shared a crazy idea that Vince had that showed his commitment to something beyond wrestling. He recalled that McMahon during the Attitude Era said that one day there won’t be a wrestling ring on the show.
Coach, Vince McMahon looked at me one day as the Attitude Era is taking off, this is exactly what he said to me I swear to god. One day there isn’t going to be a wrestling ring on the show.
One of these days, there isn’t going to be a wrestling ring on the show. (1:00:18 onwards)
Vince McMahon stepped away from WWE in 2022 following a sexual harassment scandal.
