WWE Just Weeks Away From Slashing SmackDown
WWE fans could be set for a reprieve from wrestling overload as it seems SmackDown could be returning to a two-hour show sooner rather than later.
Raw debuted on Netflix on January 6 2025, marking a huge shift in the company’s history as for the first time in decades, there was no WWE Monday night show on traditional TV. Netflix paid $5 billion for the privilege of becoming home to WWE’s content across the world, but in the US, NXT airs on the CW Network while SmackDown calls the USA Network its home.
With Raw on the move, WWE made the decision to make SmackDown a three-hour show starting with the January 3 2025, edition. For its entire run since 2019, SmackDown has been a two-hour show, giving wrestling fans one more hour of content to keep up with every week in a very saturated market.
Now, it seems, that could be changing very soon.
WWE Reverting Back To 2-Hour SmackDown
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer was asked if SmackDown was returning to a two-hour show on June 6:
I don’t have that confirmed. It’s gonna be right around that time, yes. I’ve asked around and no one has gotten back to me, but I was told months ago that it’s essentially the end of May when it’s gonna happen, so it’s gonna be one of those weeks right around then.
