WWE wanted to sign another AEW star.

Following the rise of AEW, wrestling contracts have become a bigger talking point than they had been for several years. With two North American promotions now looking to land top talent, the chances of seeing top stars jump between companies are very real.

As such, when it was reported that Willow Nightingale had just months to run on her AEW deal, speculation went into overdrive. At the time, it was suggested that the company was desperate to lock the star into a new deal, and an agreement was subsequently reached.

It’s been reported that Nightingale signed a new “multi-year” deal after she expressed that she had no real desire to leave.

WWE Held Interest In AEW Star Willow Nightingale

As reported by Mike Johnson of PWInsider, there was “absolutely interest” in Willow Nightingale from WWE, and the company was ready to follow up on that interest if she had become a free agent.

In recent months, WWE has signed Penta, Rey Fenix, Miro, Ricky Starks, and Malakai Black, all of whom had been All Elite.

Nightingale will be back in action at Double or Nothing when she takes part in Anarchy in the Arena. The former TBS Champion will team with Kenny Omega, Swerve Strickland, Samoa Joe, Powerhouse Hobbs, and Katsuyori Shibata to battle Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta, The Young Bucks, and Marina Shafir.
