WWE Producer Walked Out Over Vince McMahon’s Insane Ronda Rousey Pitch
Vince McMahon had a bold plan for Ronda Rousey in the 2022 Royal Rumble.
The 2022 Royal Rumble is already remembered more for chaos behind the scenes, than in the ring, but it seems things were almost a whole lot wilder.
During the men’s Rumble match, Shane McMahon made a surprise return to the company. However, he was criticised by fans for his performance in the match, and he made himself unpopular backstage while working as a producer. This led Vince McMahon to essentially fire his son, quickly dropping all creative plans for him leading to WrestleMania.
Incredibly, Shane McMahon earned a staggering $828,000 for his five-minute and 38-second appearance in the ring.
Meanwhile, Ronda Rousey returned to win the women’s match in her first action since WrestleMania 35. Rousey entered the match at number 28 and quickly eliminated four people including Charlotte Flair on her way to victory in ten minutes. However, Vince McMahon originally had very different plans.
Vince McMahon Wanted Ronda Rousey To Make History
A new report from Fightful Select looked back on that chaotic night in St. Louis and the series of unfortunate events that led up to it. This included popular producer TJ Wilson stepping away from the company in part due to Vince McMahon’s planned creative for Ronda Rousey. With Wilson out of the picture, Fit Finlay helped produce the women’s Rumble match.
The bizarre plan in question would have seen Rousey eliminate every Superstar in the match on her way to victory. Not only would this be an incredible story in any circumstances, but the match was Rousey’s first in more than two and a half years.
At one stage, McMahon was adamant his plan would be implemented because Rousey had signed up for a full schedule for the rest of the year.
There was also a great deal of frustration among those making cameos in the match. Fightful noted that several of these stars were simply told by McMahon to “get in and get out.” As a result, the likes of Summer Rae, Melina, Molly Holly, and more all spent less than a minute in the match.
There were also at least four names who turned down approaches from WWE to appear in the match, with Peyton Royce, Billie Kay, and Nia Jax among them. One unnamed wrestler declined the offer because Wilson wasn’t going to be involved.
