WWE Hall Of Famer Calls Vince McMahon A Complicated Man
A WWE Hall of Famer has explained why he thinks his former boss Vince McMahon is a “complicated man” among other things.
The recent Vince McMahon Netflix docuseries “Mr. McMahon” has gotten the wrestling world talking about the man who built and ran World Wrestling Entertainment for more than 40 years.
In January 2024, Vince McMahon was accused of sexual assault and sex trafficking in a bombshell lawsuit filed by former WWE employee Janel Grant. Following that lawsuit, Vince McMahon was told to resign as Executive Chairman of TKO ending his official association with WWE.
During the McMahon documentary, several people spoke in interviews (recorded before the sex trafficking lawsuit became public) about how they thought McMahon would never actually retire from running WWE.
Eric Bischoff had a unique relationship with Vince McMahon since he was the President of WCW when they beat WWE in the Monday Night Wars in the mid-1990s for an incredible 83 weeks in a row. After WWE bought WCW, Bischoff signed with WWE as the Raw General Manager and had a great three year run doing that. Bischoff was eventually inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as well.
In the summer of 2019, Bischoff was re-hired by McMahon ahead of the Smackdown on Fox launch, but Bischoff’s run only lasted for a few months before moving on.
Following the release of the Mr. McMahon documentary, Eric Bischoff’s 83 Weeks podcast has covered the documentary in detail. Bischoff recently praised McMahon for being ahead of the curve.
“He’s been so far ahead of the curve in so many aspects of not only the wrestling business but cable television.”
“He’s been on the cutting edge and had a significant impact on the pay-per-view opportunities and model. He was so far ahead of his time on [streaming], when I first heard about [the WWE Network], I thought he lost his s**t.”
Eric Bischoff Believes Vince McMahon Is A Complicated Man
The movie character Shaft was a complicated man and according to Bischoff, Vince McMahon is complicated as well.
Bischoff spoke about how WWE’s Executive Director Bruce Prichard praised McMahon a lot in the documentary and spoke about how people would only see one side of Vince since Vince was such a private person who played a heel boss character on WWE TV for so many years. As Bruce said, Vince also did good things that were not known by the public as well.
“You can love the person and hate the deed, and I believe that’s where Bruce is at. Bruce … [brought] up something — an example of one thing of many things that Vince has done to help people, without any expectation of a thank you or any publicity whatsoever. He’s so complicated, and I see why Bruce says you’re only seeing that one side of him.”
Rob Van Dam is another WWE Hall of Famer who enjoyed the Mr. McMahon documentary and recently said on his podcast that he always admired McMahon’s intelligence and still does to this day.
