WWE Veteran Breaks Down “Balancing Act” Of Working With The Rock

The Rock

Working with The Rock is far from straightforward.

After returning to WWE in early 2024, The Rock became a regular presence on Raw and SmackDown for the first time in more than a decade.

This run eventually saw the Hollywood megastar return to the ring on night one of WrestleMania 40, where he teamed with Roman Reigns to defeat Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins. During this whole process, The Great One was never too far away from Paul Heyman, who also featured heavily in his role as The Wiseman.

During a new interview with Joseph Staszewski of the New York Post, Heyman discussed the challenges in trying to work The Rock into storylines given his unpredictable schedule.

“There is a leadership by example to be set by someone who’s on the board of directors, much like Dwayne’s responsibilities as just a star of a movie are far different than when he’s one of the executive producers of the movie as well.

So he’s not just a talent, he’s a member of the board of directors. And so, there is a process by which creative has to flow seamlessly here, and he has to be part of that seamless flow. There’s a balancing act, and I think he and everyone involved in potential Rock creative are finding that balance,”

The Rock’s WrestleMania Plans Remain Unclear

Despite a series of teases going back to even before WrestleMania 40, a planned showdown between The Rock and Cody Rhodes is off. Furthermore, it appears there’s no guarantee that the veteran will be competing at WrestleMania at all.

With Rhodes reportedly heading for a match with John Cena and Roman Reigns linked with a bout opposite CM Punk, The Rock appears to be without an opponent. However, all of those plans are subject to change.

Meanwhile, it was recently reported that a match between Rock and Reigns “isn’t dead” and remains an option potentially beyond WrestleMania.
