WWE Urged To Strip Major Champions Of Their Titles
Several current WWE champions should relinquish their titles, according to a wrestling veteran.
Three major champions have fallen victim to injuries in recent weeks. WWE Speed Champion Chad Gable and Women’s Tag Team Champion Liv Morgan are set to undergo surgeries and are expected to remain out of action for a significant period.
Meanwhile, Intercontinental Champion Dominik Mysterio was scheduled to defend the title against AJ Styles at Night of Champions, but the match was canceled due to him suffering a rib injury.
While discussing Dirty Dom’s in-ring absence time on The Wrestling Time Machine, NWA Hall of Famer Bill Apter urged WWE to bring back the rule that stated that champions must relinquish their titles if they cannot defend them within 30 days. If applied, the company would have to strip Gable, Morgan, and possibly Mysterio of their championships.
Well, from what I understand, he’s gonna be out for a while. I’m not quite sure what the injury is yet, but he is injured. You know what I miss. When a champion gets injured, I miss the old ruling, which I wish they’d bring back.
If you can’t defend the title within 30 days, you’re stripped of the title. They need to bring that back. There are champions that don’t defend their title for like two PLEs, and they still have the belt. It’s not fair. Change that. [H/T: Sportskeeda]
WWE Has A Long List Of Injured Superstars
The Stamford-based company has been dealing with a wave of injuries in recent months. While RAW stars Liv Morgan, Dominik Mysterio, and Chad Gable have recently joined the list, SmackDown’s LA Knight and Elton Prince were also announced to be sidelined.
Rey Mysterio and Kevin Owens, among others, are also out of action due to being hurt. The Prizefighter recently provided an update on his neck injury during his chat with Cody Rhodes on the What Do You Wanna Talk About? podcast, revealing that he will undergo surgery next month.
It’s been such a frustrating process, we’re letting my spinal cord heal as much as it can on its own before we go in for the surgery because how extensive the surgery will be depends on how my spinal cord looks when we go in there…
…We’re waiting until mid-July to do the surgery hopefully its a normal neck fusion, it might not be, we don’t know. So since then I’ve felt fine, my neck’s been fine I’m not in pain.
