WWE Unreal Director Has Goal For Docuseries

WWE Unreal

The Director of WWE’s Netflix docuseries “Unreal” feels like more people could watch the product after seeing what goes on behind the scenes.

This has been the first year of WWE’s deal with Netflix, which saw Monday Night Raw move to Netflix around the world. Another WWE show is coming to Netflix. It’s called “WWE Unreal” and it debuts on Netflix on Tuesday, July 29th.

WWE Unreal will take fans behind the scenes to show what it’s like for the creative team, the staff, and of course, the wrestlers, as they do their jobs to the best of their abilities.

Many sports organizations have documentary series on Netflix, and they have boosted those sports, so WWE is hoping that giving fans more access to the superstars will lead to a bigger audience for Raw, SmackDown, NXT, and all the shows produced by the company.

The WWE Unreal Season 1 director, Chris Weaver, spoke to Jimmy V3 in a new interview about how he hopes Unreal propels WWE.

“I think that was a goal for WWE for sure, it was like, they’ve seen how these behind the scenes follow doc series on Netflix have sort of propelled leagues and athletes and opened up to new audiences. I think that was a major goal for them.

Let’s see if we can get more people to watch this thing and expand our footprint, expand our audience, our fan base. So yes, and hopefully we’re going to do that. I know it’s been a polarizing discussion in the wrestling realm. But my hope is… the next fan coming in is what we’re after. Bringing in new fans.”

During the same interview, Weaver said the show will cover everything from the Raw on Netflix premiere on January 6, through to WrestleMania 41 in April.

Rhea Ripley Believes Fans Will See What WWE Superstar Life Is Like

The former WWE Women’s World Champion, Rhea Ripley, spoke about what WWE fans can expect to see when they watch Unreal.

“I think they get to look at us as real people, which is something that I’m low-key excited for because sometimes they don’t treat us like we’re real people. So I feel like this little insight will just help them realize that, yes, we may be WWE superstars, but we still go through things that normal humans go through.”

They’ll be able to see what our normal day is at work and sort of like take in all the stresses that we go through and what we overcome each TV. I’m just intrigued to see how it all pans out and I’m hoping that, I know everything’s going to be positive, but I’m hoping that people take away the humanity, the human side of us all.”

There will be five episodes of WWE Unreal, available exclusively on Netflix starting July 29th.
