WWE Alters Plans for Trish Stratus-Becky Lynch SummerSlam Match

Fans looking forward to seeing Becky Lynch finally get her hands on Trish Stratus after months of torment will have to wait a little bit longer.

The feud between Lynch and Stratus appeared to have been scheduled to conclude at SummerSlam. After Lynch jumped through hoops and beat Zoey Stark at Stratus’ behest, Lynch earned the right to face the woman that has been causing her trouble since early April.

Based on how the storyline was going and the momentum Lynch was gaining, it appeared that she and Stratus were expected to face off at SummerSlam. However, a series of wild events on the July 31st episode of RAW appear to have thrown those plans into disarray.

Planned match between Trish Stratus and Becky Lynch postponed

On RAW, Becky Lynch appeared and demanded a match with Stratus, which was approved by Adam Pearce shortly thereafter. The match barely lasted five seconds because Zoey Stark attacked Lynch after Lynch hit only one move to cause an almost instantaneous disqualification.

As Stratus tried to justify her actions by saying that the bell rang and that’s all that mattered, Peace announced that another singles match between her and Lynch was announced…not for SummerSlam, though, but for the episode of RAW two weeks from now on August 14th.

According to a report from Fightful Select, this sudden change in plans was intentional. The match was first moved to Payback on September 2nd, but then the company changed plans again and settled on the August 14th RAW instead.

The feud between Becky Lynch and Trish Stratus began when Stratus attacked Lita after getting impression that both Lita and herself were positioned as Lynch’s backup in the three’s feud with Damage CTRL. Stratus felt that Lynch and other women of her generation were disrespectful towards Stratus and all of her achievements, which she believed paved the way for Lynch and her peers to do what Stratus and her generation couldn’t.

Lynch, meanwhile, has fired back by accusing Stratus of exaggerating her importance to WWE’s women’s division and pointed out various contradictions in Stratus’ legacy, such as that segment in which she was made to bark like a dog by Vince McMahon.
