Triple H has announced how WWE plans to crown the first WWE World Heavyweight Champion for the Raw brand.

The WWE Draft is behind us with Raw featuring a brand new roster and the same goes for Smackdown. In addition to that, Triple H recently announced the new World Heavyweight Title that would go to the brand that Roman Reigns isn’t on since The Tribal Chief is the WWE & Universal Champion.

Since Reigns was drafted to Smackdown along with the rest of The Bloodline, that means the new World Heavyweight Title will belong to the Raw brand.

During a WWE Backlash press conference in San Juan, Puerto Rico prior to tonight’s episode of Smackdown, WWE’s Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque shared some news about how the company plans to crown the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

There will be a tournament across both brands. There will be two triple threat matches on Raw, presumably on May 8th. The winners of those triple threat matches will meet in a singles match to determine who makes the finals.

On Smackdown, there will also be two triple threat matches on Raw. The winners of those triple threat matches will meet in a singles match on Smackdown.

The winner of the Raw tournament and Smackdown tournament will meet at Night of Champions on Saturday, May 27th to become the new World Heavyweight Champion.

While not specified by Triple H, it likely means that if the Smackdown wrestler wins the tournament then they will be the World Heavyweight Champion on Raw.

As of this writing, WWE has not announced the wrestlers in the tournament. There will be six men on Raw and six men on Smackdown leading to the Raw vs. Smackdown final match at Night of Champions.
