WWE Urged To Give Ex-World Champion A Second Chance After Cancelled Push

Success is not a long-term guarantee in wrestling, and a current WWE talent learnt it the hard way.

Despite being one of the most over superstars on the main roster, Jey Uso ended up having a tumultuous 2025.

He kick-started the year by winning the 30-man Royal Rumble match, eliminating John Cena in the process. Jey ultimately set up a feud with then-World Heavyweight Champion Gunther.

To everyone’s surprise, the 40-year-old made The Ring General tap out to win his first major championship in the company, ending his 259-day reign at WrestleMania 41.

In May, Jey successfully defended the title twice against Seth Rollins and Logan Paul. He held the championship for only 51 days, as WWE chose to pull the rug out from under him, with Gunther reclaiming the belt.

From then on, Uso’s journey was a quest to win back his championship. He finally earned the opportunity at Saturday Night’s Main Event XLI, challenging CM Punk for the title, which was vacant at the time.

The company opted against putting the championship on Jey again, crowning Punk the new champion.

With singles championship opportunities drifting away from his grasp, Uso set his eyes on challenging John Cena in his final match.

However, he lost to LA Knight in the semi-finals of the ‘Last Time Is Now’ tournament, crashing out by destroying ringside equipment and the PRIME advertising station.

Wrestling Veteran Urges WWE To Give Jey Uso A Second Chance

Jey Uso’s fall from grace was hard to watch for many fans. Even his father and WWE Hall of Famer Rikishi called out the company for his mistreatment.

Nevertheless, the storyline allowed him to reunite with his twin, Jimmy Uso, as they re-entered the tag team division.

They eventually challenged the champions, AJ Styles and Dragon Lee, whom they defeated on the final Raw episode of 2025.

Elsewhere, AAA Hall of Famer Konnan has sympathized with Jey Uso, as he discussed his downfall on a recent episode of his podcast Keepin’ It 100, urging WWE to give the 40-year-old another chance.

Hopefully, if Roman does wrestle Rock, he’s (Jey Uso) somehow in the mix, and they give him another chance. I think he deserves another chance. I think they’ve done the same thing. They haven’t brought him down to his level, but like LA Knight, they should have pulled the trigger on this guy a long time ago. [2:50 onwards]
