Media rights deals are a complex business but it now looks like a joint venture in the UK headed by Warner Bros. Discovery – AEW’s broadcast partner in the US – will be the new home of WWE.

For decades Sky Sports was the home of WWE in the UK before the company made the switch to Sky’s competitor BT Sports. Raw and SmackDown air live on the subscription channel with one-hour versions of each show also appearing on the free-to-air 5Action which is under the Paramount umbrella.

Now in a big shake-up of sports channels in the UK, BT and Warner Bros. Discovery are launching a new joint venture which will see the BT Sports name as well as the Eurosport channel disappear from UK screens to be replaced by the new TNT Sports.

TNT was of course the network that AEW programming launched on in the US in 2019 before it moved to TNT’s sister station TBS. In the UK, Tony Khan’s AEW is available on the free-to-air ITV network but fans can catch the action live with a FITE TV subscription.

A report from The Guardian notes that Warner Bros. Discovery has the option to take full control of the new venture until September 2026.
