WWE has made a huge title match official for Wrestlepalooza after the gauntlet was laid down.

Cody Rhodes was recently taken off WWE TV after being viciously assaulted on SmackDown by Drew McIntyre. McIntyre drove Rhodes’ head through the announce table with a vicious Claymore as the Scottish star set his sights on reclaiming the WWE Championship.

In reality, Cody Rhodes took time off WWE TV to film the new Street Fighter movie while his wife, Brandi, also recently gave birth to the couple’s second child.

With uncertainty over Rhodes’ recent status, WWE was keeping their options open for Wrestlepalooza with Randy Orton stepping in to try and avenge Rhodes against McIntyre. As it happened, their match took place on SmackDown with McIntyre picking up the win.

After the match, Cody Rhodes made his return to WWE, bringing the fight to McIntyre and challenging him to a match at Wrestlepalooza.

Despite many thinking the match had already been made, WWE announced the match was now on the Wrestlepalooza card on the September 15th edition of Raw.

Wrestlepalooza is WWE’s first PLE as part of their new streaming deal with ESPN in the United States, and so the company has loaded the show.

Brock Lesnar will compete in his first match in over two years as he faces his old enemy, John Cena. AJ Lee will take part in her first match in over a decade as she teams with her husband, CM Punk, to face the husband and wife team of Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch.
