Did WWE Get Tired Of Paying Brock Lesnar Millions To Stay Home?
Brock Lesnar is back in WWE to a very mixed response, but could a desire to reclaim some money be part of the decision to bring him back?
Brock Lesnar shocked the world when he returned to WWE at SummerSlam, where he attacked John Cena after Cena had lost the WWE Championship to Cody Rhodes.
Although Lesnar received a monstrous ovation in MetLife Stadium, in the cold light of day, the response to Lesnar’s return has been mixed at best. Brock Lesnar was implicated in the sexual abuse lawsuit filed against Vince McMahon, with McMahon accused of trying to sexually traffic Janel Grant to Lesnar as part of his WWE contract negotiations.
Triple H quickly claimed John Cena had requested to work with Brock Lesnar in his final year as a WWE star, although WWE abandoned their post-show press conferences with suggestions that Triple H did not want to answer questions about Lesnar’s return.
Brock Lesnar Making Over $10 Million To Stay Home?
But did WWE get fed up with paying Brock Lesnar huge sums of money for nothing in return?
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer explained why he thinks WWE claimed on Raw that Triple H and Nick Khan had contacted Lesnar despite originally claiming his return was all down to John Cena’s wishes and why Lesnar’s bumper salary could have played its part:
Maybe because the statement they put out was not well received, so they felt that they needed a new statement. So today they provided us with a new statement.
[…] They did the explanation, which I’m sure is true. If he was cleared four weeks ago, maybe they didn’t call day one, maybe they waited a week to call, and just said, “Hey dude, you’re cleared.” They’ve been paying him for the past two years, probably way over $10 million, to sit at home, so they probably want a return on that investment, even though I’m sure he sells some merchandise, but it’s probably time to get him on the show.
