WWE In Talks With Several Stars About Contract Extensions

WWE boss Triple H

WWE is looking to keep hold of a number of stars.

On August 2nd it was reported that Asuka had signed a new long-term deal with WWE.

The star hasn’t wrestled since losing the Women’s Tag Team Titles at Backlash France. While details on the injury have been at a minimum, it was widely reported that the star had been dealing with a knee problem for some time.

During her hiatus, Asuka has undergone surgery and is currently working towards getting back in the ring, although she isn’t expected to wrestle again until 2025.

Asuka initially signed with the sports entertainment giant back in 2015 and has since gone on to win every major honour on offer. The star remains the longest-reigning NXT Women’s Champion in history, having held the title for 522 days.

Asuka WWE Deal Could Be First Of Many

Reporting in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer stated that WWE has approached “a number of people” who have deals coming up in the coming months about re-signing.

WWE went to a number of people whose deals are coming up over the next several months to sign new contracts. Asuka was announced publicly. There may be others but WWE did not confirm them.

One of those unnamed stars in talks with WWE could well be Kevin Owens. The star has made no secret of the fact his contract expires in January 2025, and in a recent interview confirmed he’s yet to speak with the company.

Despite the uncertainty around his future, Owens has previously said it would be very difficult for him to leave his wrestling home of the last decade due to the relationships he’s forged along the way.
