WWE Tag Team Title Match Set For SmackDown
The newly crowned WWE Tag Team Champions are set to defend their titles just one week after winning the gold.
In the event of WWE Smackdown in Toronto on July 5th, the WWE Tag Team Champions A-Town Down Under (Austin Theory & Grayson Waller) defended the gold against the veteran tag team known as #DIY, which is the duo of Tommaso Ciampa & Johnny Gargano
The interesting thing about the event taking place in Toronto is that it was eight years earlier in 2016 when #DIY won the NXT Tag Team Titles, so the question was, could they do it again?
It was a close matchup between the champions and challengers, but in the end, it was all about submissions with Gargano applying the Gargano Escape on Waller while Ciampa grounded Theory in the Sicilian Stretch. When Waller tapped out, that meant that #DIY had finally become WWE Tag Team Champions on the main roster for the first time.
That title loss by Theory & Waller could lead to more problems for their team since there were already issues between them and the match also had a moment where Theory accidentally hit Theory.
As for what’s next, Wrestlevotes is reporting on Twitter/X that #DIY are likely going to defend their titles in a rematch against A-Town Down Under on the July 12th edition of Smackdown.
In a rematch from last week, I’m told the early rundown for tonight’s SmackDown features DIY defending the tag team championships against A-Town Down Under.
