In recent weeks WWE has held a series to find new number one contenders for the WWE Tag Team Title and now the winners of that series have an unusual new name.

Pete Dunne threw off his Butch moniker to return to his better-known name at the start of 2024 as he reunited with Tyler Bate on SmackDown.

The pair bested three other SmackDown teams to book their place in a final match against a duo from Raw to find the next contenders for the WWE Tag Team Championship at Elimination Chamber.

On the 9th of February edition of SmackDown Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate defeated #DIY to claim that title shot meaning that they’ll be heading to Australia for the huge show on February 24th.

Tyler Bate & Pete Dunne Get New Team Name In WWE

On SmackDown in Salt Lake City, Bate and Dunne were seen in a backstage interview where Bate decided that the duo needed a new name. Before their WWE careers, the pair – along with Trent Seven – were known as British Strong Style but they won’t be known as that on SmackDown.

Instead, Tyler Bate floated the name of ‘New Catch Republic’ for the pair, and that now looks to be their tag team name going forward.

Prior to their title shot against Damian Priest and Finn Balor at Elimination Chamber, the New Catch Republic will face The Judgment Day’s other male stars Dominik Mysterio & JD McDonagh on the 23rd of February edition of SmackDown.
