2-Time WWE Champion Teases Surprise Return For John Cena’s Tournament

John Cena

2-time WWE Champion Baron Corbin recently teased a WWE return to participate in John Cena’s tournament.

On Saturday Night’s Main Event XLI, WWE released a video package where Cena announced his “Last Time Is Now Tournament.” It will be a 16-man tournament designed to determine his last opponent on December 13.

It will begin on November 10 in Boston, John Cena’s hometown, and feature stars from Raw, SmackDown, NXT, and non-WWE stars, as announced by The Last Real Championship himself.

Baron Corbin Seeks Retribution on John Cena

2-time WWE Champion Baron Corbin, whose real name is Thomas Pestock, recently logged onto his Twitter account to tease a surprise return to take part in Cena’s retirement tournament. Apparently, he has some animosity toward Cena and wants to take revenge.

He posted a clip from 2017, when he cashed in his Money in the Bank contract on Jinder Mahal during the Mahal vs Cena match, but failed to win the title as The Last Real Champion provided a distraction, allowing Mahal to pin him and thus cost him his MITB briefcase.

His tweet suggests he wants to get even with John Cena by retiring him from in-ring competition, and he could very much be a part of the tournament because, as mentioned above, superstars outside of WWE are allowed to participate in the tournament.

WWE let Corbin go in November 2024 after his contract ran out, and the company didn’t renew it. The real reason was mostly creative exhaustion; fans were tired, and WWE didn’t have new ideas for his character. Plus, after so many resets and missed pushes, management felt Corbin had peaked and wasn’t connecting with the audience anymore.

After WWE released Corbin, he’s been busy exploring new opportunities outside the squared circle. He has been quite vocal about taking some time off to focus on his personal life and interests outside of wrestling. Fans have noticed he’s been more active on social media, sharing updates about his new ventures and interests, including fitness, acting, and even some business ideas.
