WWE SummerSlam Night One Main Event Revealed
WWE is preparing for the biggest SummerSlam ever.
At SummerSlam, CM Punk will look to become a World Champion for the first time since returning to WWE in November 2023. Should Punk beat Gunther and become the World Heavyweight Champion, it will kick off his first World Title run with the company since he became WWE Heavyweight Champion in 2011.
Punk earned his shot at Gunther after winning a Gauntlet Match on Raw, while the champion has held the gold since beating Jey Uso on June 9.
CM Punk To Take Center Stage At WWE SummerSlam
During an appearance on the Good Guy/Bad Guy Podcast, Punk looked ahead to his match with Gunther and why it’s so important. He also seemingly revealed that the match will take the main event spot.
“Me main eventing, I think it’s important. It’s important for the title. I think it’s important for Gunther. I’m looking forward to not only main eventing SummerSlam but stealing the whole weekend.
This dude is the best wrestler in the world. He’s got the gold to prove it, too.
He’s a guy who represents the business to me… You could take him and you could drop him into a territory in the 60s and he would thrive… He transcends decades to me. He’s one of the best right now.”
At SummerSlam 2024, Punk wrestled his first televised singles match since returning to WWE, losing to Drew McIntyre.
