Major WWE SummerSlam Match Getting Special Stipulation

WWE is going to make big changes to one SummerSlam match.

Even before WrestleMania 40, it was rumoured that Drew McIntyre would face CM Punk at SummerSlam. The pair have been at odds since the Royal Rumble, with Punk’s torn triceps keeping him out of action.

Despite this, the former AEW star has continued to taunt and prod at McIntyre, costing him the World Championship not once but twice. Not that the Scottish star has been a saint, repeatedly taking shots at Punk at every opportunity.

But it seems the verbal sparring and confrontations will soon come to an end with CM Punk on the verge of a return to the ring. However, it seems the match might be getting even more sizzle.

Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that a huge SummerSlam match will be getting a special guest referee. Meltzer said he was unable to confirm which match the stipulation will be added to, but he expects it to be Punk vs. McIntyre.

As of right now there is a guest referee spot scheduled for one of the top bouts. I don’t know which one it is, but was told it’s not Ripley vs. Morgan. Most figure that match is going to end when Dominik comes out and then he’ll help someone win, whether overtly or through a screw-up and the storyline will go from there.

I can speculate Rollins as referee for Punk vs. McIntyre but that’s only a guess.
