WWE SummerSlam Match Hit By Creative Issues
Two WWE stars had to battle through creative issues at SummerSlam.
At SummerSlam in Detroit, Ronda Rousey went one-on-one with her old friend Shayna Baszler in an MMA Rules match. The two women have been at odds since Baszler turned on Rousey at Money In The Bank costing them the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship in the process. Shayna Baszler picked up the win when she put Rousey to sleep in the Kirifuda Clutch and there seems to be good reason for the decisive finish to the bout.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer gave insight into the issues between WWE and Rousey and Baszler and seemed to indicate there seemed to be a difference of opinions as to what MMA Rules actually meant:
“Ronda and Shayna wasn’t the best match. There were issues between WWE creative and them as far as how it was gonna go, and you don’t have knockdowns in an MMA fight and do ten counts, or whatever, but it’s like, you have some people stuck in one mentality of combat and others in another, and it kind of, I think that it kind of hurt that.”
Is Ronda Rousey leaving WWE?
The feud between Shayna Baszler and Ronda Rousey was believed to be somewhat rushed due to Rousey giving WWE a firm date for when she’d be leaving the company once again.
A report suggests that Rousey is not expected back at any specific time and SummerSlam was believed to be her “farewell for now” although as has been seen before, she can always return in the future.
