Top WWE Stars “Dejected” After Vince McMahon’s Retirement
Veteran WWE Superstars are reported to be “dejected” following the news of Vince McMahon’s retirement which came soon after he said he wasn’t going anywhere.
Several longtime WWE Superstars are said to have been “dejected” by the sudden announcement of Vince McMahon’s retirement from WWE, according to a new report from Fightful Select.
The reason for stars feeling “off-put” by McMahon’s departure seemingly stems from a talent meeting held ahead of Money in the Bank. Taking place just weeks before McMahon’s decision to retire was made public, talent was repeatedly informed that there would be no changes to the status of WWE management.
Although no names were specifically revealed, the report states that “multiple top stars” and “plenty of longtime talent” felt disheartened. One of the Superstars also said that it “shouldn’t have taken a scandal for a shakeup.”
Vince McMahon announced his departure on Friday, 22 July, saying that, as he approaches 77-years-old, it was time for him to retire. A WWE Corporate press release issued soon after revealed that Stephanie McMahon is now the full-time Chairwoman, while she and Nick Khan will be co-CEOs moving forward.
Vince McMahon took a step back from his WWE duties in June after news broke of an investigation into allegations of misconduct and exchanges of “hush money” worth millions of dollars.
