WWE Star Wants Wrestling To Be “Genderless”

Ronda Rousey Triple H WWE

WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion Lita thinks wrestling’s future should be genderless and that talent should be allowed to rise to the top no matter how they identify.

When Lita was making her name in WWE it was not uncommon to see men taking on women in matches or for The Dudley Boyz or Jeff Jarrett to use their trademark weapons to assault female stars in the company.

Times have changed and inter-gender wrestling in WWE has somewhat ground to a halt, although the company will induct the Inter-Gender Champion of the World into the Hall of Fame in 2023.

Speaking to Pro Wrestling Bits, Lita, who was never shy about mixing it up with men in the ring, has said that she thinks the next barrier to be broken in pro wrestling is for it to become genderless:

“To me, the next barrier is genderless. I don’t care how you identify, we’re just going to go out there and show out. And it’s not like ‘what women do we have on the show? Where’s this representation?’ No, fair game. Everyone go. Grab your spot and we go out there.

“Some nights that might mean eight women’s matches on the card, some nights that might mean two.”

“To not still feel like it’s a box to check to make sure to represent the women. Of course they’re going to be represented, because they’re good.”

“Just continuing on not being confined by gender, it’s like: ‘I see a prize, I go after it. We’re not worried about what defines my gender. I see a title, and that’s what I want to do.”

Lita will be on the card for WrestleMania 39 where she teams with Becky Lynch and Trish Stratus to take on the Damage CTRL trio of Bayley, IYO SKY, and Dakota Kai.
