Only One WWE Star May Threaten Gunther’s Reign Of Destruction

A 6’6″ WWE Superstar is tipped to pose a major threat to Gunther in 2026.

Although The Ring General lost the World Heavyweight Championship to Jey Uso at WrestleMania 41, he quickly recaptured it. He then successfully defended it against Goldberg, retiring the WWE Hall of Famer.

Despite again dropping the title at SummerSlam, the Austrian star has been on a dominant run since his comeback from hiatus. The 38-year-old went through Je’Von Evans, Carmelo Hayes, Solo Sikoa, and LA Knight, respectively, to win the Last Time Is Now tournament and earn the right to face John Cena in his final match.

At Saturday Night’s Main Event, Gunther forced The Never Seen 17 to tap out. Last Monday on RAW, the former leader of Imperium did the same to Cena’s “little brother” R-Truth.

Can Gunther Be Stopped In 2026?

Speaking on his Notsam Wrestling podcast, WWE analyst Sam Roberts addressed The Ring General’s “reign of destruction.” The 42-year-old predicted that only Oba Femi would pose a threat to the former World Heavyweight Champion in 2026.

Oba Femi is currently in his second reign as NXT Champion. Recent reports suggested WWE’s higher-ups are very impressed by the Nigerian star.

Oba Femi is the one to threaten Gunther’s reign of destruction. Will Oba Femi beat Gunther in 2026? I don’t know. But I think Oba Femi will be the one to threaten Gunther’s reign of destruction and it will look as though this entire Gunther build ends up being all about Oba becoming a bigger star.

I think Oba is the guy that threatens it more so than anybody else. And maybe that takes the full year. Maybe it comes a lot quicker. I don’t know. But I think for Gunther, he’s got a rivarly with Cody Rhodes, he’s retiring Brock Lesnar, and then Oba is the one that shows up and threatens it all. [56:06 onwards]
