WWE Star Thought Mariah May Was Tiffany Stratton
Is that Mariah May or Tiffany Stratton?
On the May 27 edition of NXT, thanks to a helping hand from the rest of Fatal Influence, Jacy Jayne overcame Stephanie Vaquer to become NXT Women’s Champion.
While Jayne had previously held tag team gold, her win over Vaquer was a bigger and incredibly significant milestone.
During an appearance on Busted Open Radio, Jayne looked back on her rise through NXT and her journey to the NXT Women’s Championship. The star said that her victory was validation and proof that she’s much more than just a tag team wrestler.
“I feel like it was validation, because I feel like I’ve always known I was capable of more than just being a tag team wrestler. It was just waiting for the right opportunity to show the world that. I feel like I have been in so many factions. I kind of just hopped around for a while so you never really saw that other side of me.
But now I feel it is my chance to show the world that what you thought of me is not what I am and I am just getting started and I have so much more to show everybody.”
Jayne explained that it took a few days for the victory to sink in, but when it finally did, she was overwhelmed by emotion.
“Yeah, I feel like it’s such a blur, to be honest with you (Jayne said about the night she won the NXT Women’s Title). That whole night I feel like is such a blur to me. I don’t know if I was just laser-focused or I was trying not to get in my head.
I don’t really know what it was. But it really didn’t even hit me until like two days later. I came home from training one day and I just started bawling, for no reason. But, I feel like that was the first moment that it really hit me. Before that, I feel like I was just on autopilot. Just go, go, go, go, go.”
“I Thought It Was Tiffany Stratton” – Jacy Jayne
During the June 3 episode of NXT, Jayne was confronted by several potential new challengers, including Jordynne Grace, Lash Legend, and Lola Vice. However, it was the surprise debut of former AEW star Mariah May that stole the headlines.
With the ring packed, the lights went out, and when they came back on, May sent a warning to the champion.
When asked about May’s arrival, Jayne said she was excited to have another talented star in the division, even if she did initially think it was Tiffany Stratton.
“So at first, I thought it was Tiffany (Stratton). I was like, oh my God! Tiffany’s here. But, then I was like, okay. Well, she doesn’t have a title. Can’t be Tiffany. But I’m excited. I welcome anybody to our division. Let’s see if you can hang with our division and it’s just another shot for me to show everyone that I’m better.”
It’s been widely reported that WWE is planning to give Mariah May a new ring name after avoiding using her current moniker during her debut.
