WWE Star Claims They Spent “Too Much Time On The Indies”

A popular WWE star has admitted they were “entitled” when they joined the company.

After impressing across the independent scene and later in TNA, Chelsea Green signed with WWE in 2018. However, she struggled for momentum during her time in NXT and later on SmackDown before being released in April 2021.

However, the star quickly got back to work and wrestled just about everywhere before landing back in WWE at the 2023 Royal Rumble.

During a new interview with the Lightweights Podcast, Green looked back on her first run with WWE and admitted that her attitude likely held her back.

“I think I had spent too much time on the indies that by the time I got to NXT, I was going against the system. I was fighting against it… And I was so set in my way that I didn’t want anyone to change it and I was so entitled because I had been a world champion.

So I was like, ‘Why do I need to change? You hired me. You knew what you were getting. Why do I need to change? You should just be putting these belts on me’ and I needed to be humbled. I needed to be fired and go back to the indies and rebrand and change my mindset, be humbled. Strip myself of that entitlement and just really realize that things will come when they’re meant to come and that’s what happened.”

Chelsea Green Asked For Early Release From WWE Deal

During the same interview, Chelsea Green revealed that she had asked for an early release from her WWE contract when she left the company in 2021.

Green explained that she and several other talents who were set to be released were tied to a 90-day non-compete clause, but this ensured they would continue to be paid by WWE during this period. However, realising that all the released stars would be free to work the same shows at the same time, Green came up with a different plan.

The star reasoned that in order to stand out, she would ask to be allowed out of her deal to hit the indies a month earlier. Although it meant missing out on guaranteed money from WWE, it enabled her to have a jump start on resuming her career.
