Popular WWE Star Sets Sights On World Championship Glory
A former Intercontinental Champion has some lofty WWE goals.
After moving to Monday Night Raw in September 2023, Jey Uso’s popularity began to grow. A long way from teaming up with his brother Jimmy, Jey started to make a name for himself as a singles wrestler and his infectious enthusiasm quickly won over fans.
Fast forward to 2024 and Jey’s popularity exploded, and he found himself in the main event picture on the red brand. This culminated in an emotional night on September 23rd when the star won the Intercontinental Championship for the first time.
While his title reign lasted a little under a month, the win validated Jey’s belief that he could make it on his own.
Jey Uso Looking To Continue WWE Rise
Speaking to Cheap Heat with Peter Rosenberg, Uso said his Intercontinental Title victory meant a lot to him, and boosted his confidence.
“Yeah, man, it just puts a stamp on you. If you’re a wrestler, you want to hold a damn WWE Championship one time, a World Heavyweight Championship one time. I want to hold that s**t.
I ain’t ever thought about being a champion like that until I got the IC Title man, until ‘24 popped off the way it did, it built my confidence. It made me believe, hell yeah, I could be the face, Uce.”
Jey went on to say that while people will continue to doubt him, he’s going to win a World Championship, putting both Cody Rhodes and Gunther on notice.
“Yeah, I want the title. I’ll take it off of anybody, just give me the shot. Gunther, whoever it is, Cody Rhodes, we can run it. I’m telling you, I’m gonna get the big one.
No one believes that, just like that doubted me the whole time. It’s all good. I’m used to that. It’s just fuel to the fire. But I’m gonna get that, I’m gonna get it. I’m putting it out there right now.”
During the same conversation, Jey Uso confirmed that Paul Heyman is still heavily involved with The Bloodline behind the scenes, despite not appearing on television since June. The star added that Heyman is always available to offer advice, and regularly looks to contribute in any way he can.
With Jimmy and Jey back on the same page, the pair will team with Roman Reigns, Sami Zayn, and an as-yet-unnamed partner at Survivor Series to battle Solo Sikoa, Jacob Fatu, Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa, and Bronson Reed inside WarGames.
