WWE Star Teases Retirement If They Get John Cena’s Last Match
One WWE star says they might hang up their boots if they end up being part of John Cena’s final match.
John Cena will end his legendary career at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13th, but who his opponent will be at that show remains a mystery.
A 16-man Last Time Is Now tournament is underway, with the winner getting the chance to stand across from Cena as his final opponent. The stakes may have been raised for that match as John Cena defeated Dominik Mysterio for the Intercontinental Championship, making Cena a WWE Grand Slam Champion in the process.
Sheamus, Rusev, Jey Uso, and LA Knight have already made it to the quarter-finals of the tournament, and it will continue when Raw heads to Madison Square Garden. That show will see a returning Gunther take on NXT’s Je’Von Evans, while Solo Sikoa will face a mystery opponent.
Je’Von Evans Might Retire If He Faces John Cena
Speaking to Yahoo! Sports, Je’Von Evans contemplated the huge opportunity given to him and says he’s ready to take on the challenge of winning the tournament:
I’ve always been a fan of Cena, especially me being younger. He always played to the younger fans. I’m so blessed to be in this position and have this opportunity. There’s a picture of my first WWE event — I’m wearing John Cena’s headband and wrist joints. This is insane.
I know that the process to get into [Cena’s final match] is going to be trouble, for sure, It’s going to be mountains, it’s going to be speed bumps, but I’m willing to get there. Whatever I need to do, whatever I’ve got to do, whatever helps me get to that match, to have that match with Cena, I’m ready to take all that on.
Evans added that if he made it to Saturday Night’s Main Event to face John Cena, then he’d probably contemplate hanging up his boots as well:
Bro, honestly, if that happened, I would probably retire with him, what can I do, man? I had Cena’s last match. You know what, Cena? You have my last match, too.
John Cena will open Raw in Madison Square Garden, where he will compete in his final Raw match, 20 years after he first competed on the red brand for the very first time.
