WWE Star Regrets Missing Maxxine Dupri’s Big Moment
Maxxine Dupri showed that in wrestling, nothing is impossible.
On the November 17 edition of Monday Night Raw at Madison Square Garden, Maxxine Dupri shocked the world and Becky Lynch, as she claimed her first-ever piece of championship gold.
In the third singles meeting between the pair in recent weeks, Dupri pinned Lynch to win the Women’s Intercontinental Championship following a shock appearance from AJ Lee. With Lynch distracted, Dupri hit a huge crossbody from the top before pinning the champion.
The victory marked a huge feel-good moment on the show, and a major upset, given Dupri’s relative inexperience and her very public work to improve in the ring.
Maxxine Dupri Earned Her Big Moment
One of the key figures behind Dupri’s development has been Natalya, who has trained the star regularly at The Dungeon. The veteran has also teamed with Durpi on Raw, as she tried to pass on her experience to the rising star.
On Busted Open Radio, Natalya was quick to praise Dupri for her big win, while also expressing regret and missing out on being there live.
“I’m sad that I wasn’t there for it. I would have loved to have been there for her and that big moment. I was on a flight and I wasn’t able to be there.”
Natalya went on to highlight the scale of the task that Dupri had faced before she found a way to triumph.
“She won her first championship. She beat Becky Lynch, who is one of the best women in our entire division and the world. It’s not just her saying it. Becky main evented WrestleMania.
It’s a big deal that Maxxine beat Becky and won her first championship and did it at Madison Square Garden. There is so much that made it a big deal. What it was also was a feel good moment for everyone. It’s such an underdog moment. It was cool to see someone else get a chance. It’s what’s fun about wrestling. You never know what’s going to happen.”
Becky Lynch had held the Women’s Intercontinental Championship since beating Lyra Valkyria at Money In The Bank.
